or, how to write that scientific paper (report, thesis, or dissertation) without ticking off the reviewers and editor(s) - a primer for students and helpful hints for anyone who learned other kinds of writing (such as English literature and journalism, where objectives differ and style differs).

The K.I.S.S. pages were written as a resource for students in entomology and nematology. They explain many of the things you should do and should not do in writing term papers, theses, dissertations, and manuscripts for publication. They also include other useful information. Still, they are not comprehensive, and the student who wants to become a professional is advised to buy a copy of the CBE Style Manual (6th edition). CBE is the Council of Biological Editors.

The K.I.S.S. pages came about because one faculty member got tired of correcting similar things in writing after writing of student after student. Surely, he thought, students would benefit from having a convenient resource summarizing these things. If nobody has told them before they need to write, how can they be expected to know?
